On a weather-exposed door the details do double duty — they have to look right and keep the elements out. That is where a finish-carpentry install earns its keep.
Plumb, level, square jamb
The jamb is shimmed and fastened plumb and level so the door holds its position and the weather-seal stays in even contact.
Even reveal margins
Consistent gaps down the hinge side, latch side, and head so the door reads straight and closes without rubbing.
Threshold & sill fit
The threshold is set flat and sealed so water and dust stay out and the sweep meets it cleanly across the full width.
Weather-seal contact
Weatherstripping is set for continuous contact so the door seals against Arizona sun, wind, and temperature swings.
Hardware & deadbolt alignment
Strikes and bores are aligned so the latch catches and the deadbolt throws fully — no lifting or forcing the door to lock.
Protected finishes & clean jobsite
Floors, casing, and adjacent surfaces are covered before cutting or fitting, and the area is left clean when the work is done.

The inside of the opening matters as much as the outside.
A front door is judged from the street, but it lives from the inside — the jamb, the casing, the reveal, and the hardware all have to line up on the interior side too. Both faces of the opening are finished so the door reads clean coming and going.

The existing jamb or rough opening is measured and checked for square, plumb, and size against the door being installed.
2 · Confirm door & hardware
Door type, swing direction, threshold, and hardware are confirmed so the finished entry works the way you need.
3 · Protect finishes
Floors, casing, and nearby surfaces are covered before any cutting, mortising, or fitting begins.
4 · Install & seal
The jamb is set plumb and level, the door hung, threshold and weather-seal fit, and hinges, strikes, and hardware aligned.
5 · Final operation check
The door is cycled and the swing, latch, deadbolt, seal, and margins are verified before the job is called done.

What is the difference between front door and exterior door installation?
A front door is an exterior door — the terms overlap. Both are installed the same careful way: set plumb and level, with even reveals, proper threshold and weather-seal contact, and hardware that latches and locks cleanly. Any exterior opening, whether the main entry, a side door, or a back door, is treated as a weather-exposed install.
Do you install slab and prehung exterior doors?
Yes. Prehung units are shimmed square in the opening with the threshold set for a flat, sealed sill. Slabs into an existing exterior jamb get hinge and bore prep, mortising, and edge easing so the door fits the opening and swings true. Installation details can be reviewed during the estimate.
How do you handle door hardware alignment?
Hinges are mortised to depth and strikes are set so the latch catches on the first try and the deadbolt throws fully into the jamb. Handlesets, levers, and locksets are fit so they operate smoothly. Customer-supplied or coordinated hardware can be installed — the specifics are confirmed at the estimate.
Do I need to replace my front door or can it be repaired?
It depends on the condition. A door that sticks, drags, or has a misaligned latch is often a repair or adjustment; a door with structural damage, a failed jamb, or one you simply want upgraded is a replacement. Send photos and Devin will advise which makes sense before any work is scheduled.
What photos and measurements help with a front door estimate?
Photos of the door from outside and inside, a shot of the jamb and threshold, and the door's width and height are the most useful. If you already have a replacement door in mind, its size, swing direction, and hardware details help. Anything missing can be confirmed on site.

Every front and exterior door install is warranted against workmanship defects for two years. If Retro Fit’s installation labor is the cause, we come back and make it right — the standard you should expect from owner-operated work by a licensed Arizona finish carpenter (AZ ROC #346885).
What the warranty covers
Retro Fit installation labor and workmanship — the door set plumb and level, even reveals, threshold and weather-seal fit, and hardware aligned and operating as installed. If a covered workmanship issue appears within two years, we return and correct it.
What it does not cover
Materials and manufacturer defects, customer-supplied products, normal wood movement and settling, water or moisture damage, abuse or misuse, and any work later modified by others. Product warranties are handled by the manufacturer.
